At first, they're dismissed as seasonal... but the sightings spread, the cocoons multiply, and the wards get tested in quiet little ways. Year 2 People start acting a little off. Arguments end too fast. The same phrases show up in different mouths. It feels like someone is gently sanding down the sharp edges of choice. Year 3 Visitors arrive with perfect paperwork and colder eyes than they should have. Faculty meetings stretch late. Doors get sealed. The academy starts feeling like it's the one being examined. Year 4 Distant tremors become a pattern. Roads go quiet. Whole stretches of countryside stop sending messages. Whatever is out there is big enough that the academy can't pretend it's someone else's problem.
